Bill was born on April 3, 1936 in Menominee, Michigan to parents Lester and Helen Brown. He was of Swedish and English ancestry. Bill grew up with his small family in West Allis, Wisconsin. He was an only child. Bill attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison where he played football, and then Wabash College to complete his undergraduate studies. He attended the University of Akron for his graduate studies and earned his Doctorate degree in Polymer Chemistry. He worked in the Automotive Industry, specializing in metallic paint and designing a paint recovery system. He worked for General Motors for many years but ultimately retired from PPG at the age of 62. Bill was an extremely intelligent person, but also very humble and modest. He continued to learn his whole life, as he later enjoyed taking classes in guitar, computer science, Chinese, and even wine making. He was also a handy person, who liked carpentry and wood-working. Bill enjoyed boating, especially at Higgins Lake, and was a licensed Captain in the Power Squadron. He was also a licensed General Contractor. He was a longtime member at the First United Methodist Church of Birmingham. Bill genuinely enjoyed living life to the fullest and was willing to try almost anything. He loved people and was loved by people. He is remembered for his wonderful sense of humor. Bill was a loving family man and caregiver. Beloved husband of the late Loralee for 55 years. Dear father of Christine Donelson (Robert), Michael J. Brown, and Amy Brown. Cherished grandfather of Emma Gunnett (Aaron), Rachel Cashman (James), Hailey Lowery, Maggie Sheppard (Ben), Sarah Donelson, and Grace Donelson. Great grandfather of Brett William. Brother-in-law of Ann Grabill (Jerry). A memorial service at First United Methodist Church of Birmingham will be held Monday, May 15 at 1 PM with a reception to follow.
