Lola May Bloomquist, the daughter of Otto and Sylvia (Vanscoy) Sundstrom was born May 19, 1927 in Corning, Iowa. She passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2014 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 87 years, 6 months and 4 days.
Lola graduated from Corning High School and returned every year for Homecoming. Lola was united in marriage to Charles A. Bloomquist on October 20, 1946 at Corning, Iowa. In 1955, Lola and Charles moved to Red Oak. She worked as a teacher’s aide for the Red Oak School District at Bancroft and Webster schools from 1971-1974. Lola then worked at Murphy Memorial Hospital, Red Oak in the medical records department from 1977-1984, later as the office clerk at First Christian Church from 1984-1987. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Red Oak, being active in the ladies circles and a member of the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary volunteering in the Lemon Tree Gift Shop. She also enjoyed traveling and playing bridge. Lola loved spending time visiting with friends over coffee.
Lola was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles on January 6, 1981; son, Robert C. Bloomquist and daughter, Carol A. Kinnersley. Lola is survived by her daughter, Susan Poort and husband Kevin of Red Oak, IA; 4 grandchildren: Jared Gresham, Dan Gresham, Chase Poort and Haley Poort; other relatives and friends.
