"Swede" Anderson, 98, son of John E. and Lena Sundstrom Anderson, was born Nov. 25, 1892 in Corning and died Aug. 7, 1991, in Clearwater, Fla., where he had resided since 1979.He attended school through his freshman year and was a member of the freshman basketball team. He then worked for grocer Charles Johns delivering groceries with a team of mules and later the first Model T delivery truck in Corning. He joined the National Guard Company K and was a member of their five-year undefeated basketball team. In 1916 he served with Company K along the Mexican Border. In 1918, he joined the regular army and was stationed near Des Moines before serving overseas with the 88th Division. After his discharge in 1919, he worked for Biggars as a clothing clerk and in the grocery department. In 1923, he went into the oil business with Curly Miller and three years later with Harry Scott. In 1934, he took over the Standard Oil station until forming the Anderson-Miller Oil Co. in 1944, in partnership with his brother Otto Anderson and Dick Miller. The firm had dealers in Carl, Prescott, Bushville and two in Corning. He was an avid golfer, past commander of Corning American Legion Post #117, a member of VFW Post 3659, and a member of the Corning Methodist Church until 1984 when he transferred his membership to St.Paul United Methodist Church in Largo, Fla.He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.He is survived by his wife Lillian Victor Anderson; one daughter Donalene Linch and her husband Jack of Ogallala, Neb.; two grandchildren and one great grandson. Services were held Aug. 12 at the Serenity Garden Chapel with Dr. Tom Farmer officiating. Entombment was in the mausoleum at Serenity Garden Memorial Park Moss-Feaster Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
